Max reservation window: Wed Oct 20 2010 DescriptionKET1: A visit to the Kettle Moraine State Forest reveals the natural beauty of the region. More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pinewoods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit making this facility a popular area for a wide variety of users. Visitors to the forest can camp in one of three family campgrounds, a horse riders camp or one of two group camps, hike, mountain bike, ride a horse, snowmobile or ski on the 160+ miles of trail, swim at one of two beaches, backpack to an overnight shelter on the Ice Age Trail, picnic, fish, hunt, or tour three historic cabin sites. There are also facilities for use by those with disabilities including a cabin in the campground and an accessible nature trail. (Latitude, Longitude): 42.87778, -88.52917 The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is located 61 miles east of Madison, and 37 miles southwest of Milwaukee. The forest is 30 miles in length, extending from the village of Dousman to near the city of Whitewater. Forest HQ offers information, museum, and gift shop. Camper check-in is done at Ottawa Lake or Whitewater Lake Campground Stations. Forest Headquarters is located 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on Hwy 59. Travel Hwy 67 north from the village of Eagle, or south from I-94. Then turn west on Hwy ZZ to the campground entrance. Dousman, WI 53118 Or plot the corner of State Road 67 and County Road ZZ Pinewoods Campground: Campsites check-in/registration for Pinewoods is at Ottawa Lake Campground. Whitewater Lake east and west campgrounds, and Hickory Woods, are part of the Whitewater Lake Recreation Area. Whitewater Lake is located southeast of the city of Whitewater.
